Year in Review
|
2005/2006 We started our new year by having a members' Show and Tell so we could display what works we had created over the summer months. It's always fun to see who has painted/drawn/collaged what while we were apart for a time. Retha Howard, of White Dove Gallery, also joined us for the evening to talk about proper framing of our art for the Member Show, which was held at the gallery.
Members Aletha Deuel and Tis Huberth, were asked this year to judge the Oil and Mixed Media categories at the Puyallup Fair Art Show.
Rita Gesinger demonstrated her oil bar techniques during our October meeting. Her energetic flare and bold color use was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. Quite a few of us signed up for her workshop after the demonstration.
Nola Tresslar found opportunity for members to hang art pieces at the Lakewood Racquet Club and Susan Paredes held print making classes at Heart Space Studio in Gig Harbor.
November brought our Member Show (November 19 - January 6) at the White Dove Gallery and many other shows which were entered by a number of our club members.
Comcast art programs, 'Reaching Out' on channel 76, featured paintings by Aletha Deuel, Glenda Wiffler, Annette Burt and Diane Geisler.
Representatives from Daniel Smith's Art Supplies came with plenty of new products for us to play with at our November meeting. Of course, we also went home with samples to try out in our studios, too.
Sharon Crocetti kindly opened her home for us to have our annual Christmas party there. No one had to worry about lack of food, goodies or gifts, since we all brought some of each to share.
Marshall Perrow had a painting accepted by the Salmagundi Club in December and now said painting is part of the Permanent Collection of American Artists.
IN January, Nina Mikhailenko, who helped judge our 2005 Open Show, gave the group an oil painting demonstration. Her expressive style of painting kept our rapt attention throughout the entire time.
Member, Gail Janes, had her work 'Persian Window' purchased by The Pierce County Arts and Cultural Services (bought with plans to have it displayed throughout Pierce County) and Dalin Wiffler shared with us how he creates his blown glass vessels and sculptures. The DVD presentation made it so we could see the work being done in the glass studio.
Becci Crowe entertained us with tales of her travels into Antarctica. A documentary of the trip is being made for television. Becci does large pen and ink drawings of sights seen on her trips.
Nola Tresslar had a One - Woman show at the Pierce County Hospice House and Betty Mears was featured on Comcast's 'Reaching Out' program.
During our April meeting we had the pleasure of watching Nancy Bogni's unique style of watercolor painting using sumi ink applied with a stick before painting on the watercolors. Very interesting approach!
The next month's activity was presented by members Azella Taylor, Nola Tresslar, Gail Janes, JoAnn Dorsey - Hayden, Tis Huberth, Pat Graham, Sharylyn Dixon and Annette Burt who brought their art works to share. After brief descriptions of techniques, a question and answer time followed.
PGA held their 56th Annual Open Exhibition at the Bronze Works in downtown Tacoma in which 9 awards were presented to PGA members.
Every meeting had a table full of art goodies to be raffled off and a counter loaded with yummy snacks for members to munch on during the break time. Snacks and goodies were eaten at Betty Mears' place, though, during June's annual picnic / meeting.
The PGA year came to a close with the opening of the South Sound 4 Exhibition at the Bronze Works Gallery (featuring works by members of PGA, Olympia Art League, Peninsula Art League and Rainier League of Arts) and the election of new board members for the upcoming year.
We hope you'll plan on joining us for the 2006 / 2007 year of activities. It would be a pleasure to see you there! |
