20010/2011

Incoming President, Kathy Gidley, started the new year with enthusiasm, energy and encouragement to bring any and all suggestions for improving our group as a whole.  The start of a DVD library was one of those improvements.  At the time of this update, we have 29 high quality video workshops in our library covering many art approaches/mediums for members to check out.

At each meeting we held a mini show (works brought in by PGAers to share) with members enjoying and voting for their favorites at the break.  During this time we also sold tickets for the monthly raffle of donated art related items - frames, books, art paper, paints - you never know what will show up on the raffle table!

Many in our membership entered the yearly WWFair Fine Art Show and came away with awards.  Our president's painting won 2nd place and was also chosen for the Directors Purchase Award.  Way to go, Kathy! Several in our group were asked to judge the show - we were well represented there.

Our yearly Christmas party was held at Kathy Gidley's place where we enjoyed a lively gift exchange, good eats and each other's company.

January 2011 a 'Just For Fun Show' was held at the Friends Gallery in Lakewood for all group members.  No entry fee, no reception, no prizes, just a chance to hang art as a group.

Throughout the year we enjoyed demonstrations by art teachers, watercolorists, portrait artists and pastel and silk painters as part of our monthly meetings.

We held our 3rd Annual PGA Original Works of Art Raffle at the Pacific Harbors Council BSA Headquarters in Tacoma.  Many wonderful paintings and other works were donated by PGA members and the general public got a chance to support our group with their interest of owning a piece of original art.  The success of these raffles have made it so participating members can enjoy educational workshops.  Local silk painter and teacher, Beverly Pedersen, gave a one day workshop in silk painting and many beautiful scarves were painted that afternoon.

All during the year PGAers stayed involved artistically on so many levels - teaching classes, hanging individual shows in various venues, judging art shows, taking lessons, hosting video workshops and finding ways to improve as artists.

Why not visit with us at South Park Community Center in Tacoma?  All guests are welcome to our meetings that are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month (Sept. - Nov. and Jan. - May) 7-9pm.  We hope to see you there!
